Overview
- The Indus Valley inhabitants are known as Dravidians
- The Indus Valley civilization was centered on its great cities, Mohenjo Daro & Harappa
- Like many other civilizations, the Indus Valley civilization was centralized around a river, appropriately named the Indus River.
- At that time, the Indus Valley was one of the best places to start a civilization because the river flooded reliably twice a year
- The river area was flat & well watered, once it flooded, rich silt was deposited
- Many people lived in rural areas, in small towns and villages making their living off of the land
- These people became rich by trading corn in the cities, adding to the diet by hunting animals
- They were possibly the first people to grow cotton as fabric for clothes
- Cities were made to catch the wind and provide natural air conditioning and were very clean. The city was connected to a centralized drainage system.
What Happened To The Indus Cities?
The Indus civilization fell into decay and collapsed between 1500 BCE. A number of things might have cause this, but no one knows for sure what it is.
